Members of the Month – Art Leyenberger

Art-Leyenberger-MOTM

The Member of the Month for May is Art Leyenberger. Art, who returned to The Chatham Club a year and a half ago, embodies the spirit of commitment. He has become a regular fixture of the morning crew, diligently sticking to his routine. His schedule includes Yoga three times a week, cardio twice a week, Carmine’s class once a week, and a couple of personal training sessions. Art’s dedication has paid off; he proudly shares that he has lost 30 pounds since January! Here is how our interview with Art went.

What do you like most about the Club?
I love the feel here.  I feel it’s like Cheers when I walk in. Everyone knows your name and lots of friendly faces.  I’m a techy guy, so I loved searching for and finding connections to my favorite cardio pieces on my phone to track all my workouts and progress.  I love the variety of equipment and feel comfortable here.  I travel here from Parsippany (my new commute now that I’m retired), and it’s definitely worth the little drive.  The staff is friendly and helpful!

What do you like most about Personal Training?
I’ve been training with Carmine since I returned here, and it’s been great.  He was my perfect match, and we clicked from the start.  I consider him my partner in my fitness/health journey.  He pushes me to stay on track with my goals.  He’s been patient with me and encourages me to ask questions, which I love.  He gives excellent feedback, and I learn more about my health as we go.  He’s also helped me make better decisions about my eating, and he has a great sense of humor, which keeps it fun.  The improvements I’ve made through my training and routine have helped make my vacations more enjoyable.  My wife and I like to travel and often visit places that require lots of walking.  My improved strength and stamina have made those long walks easier and allowed me to focus on the fun of it.

What are your favorite exercises?
I love doing the Ski Erg (it reminds me of when I used to go cross-country skiing) and the rower.  Walking on the treadmill has gotten easier, so I’m enjoying that more.

What are your least favorite exercises?
The toughest for me are the Glider mountain climbers and Lunges.  I’m working toward changing that.

What do you enjoy doing outside of the Club?
I love to travel, read, and strategize my points for free flights and hotel stays(the techy side of me again).

What are some of your upcoming goals?
My goal is to lose another 20 pounds, maybe more.  I will also continue to get stronger, stay healthy, and focus on eating better.

Thank you, Art, and continue the great path you are on!
