Q: How long have you been coaching at TCC?
A: 6 years

Q: Where did your passion for squash come from?
A: My passion for squash started when I was 8 in Ipswich, Australia. It was my dad who thought squash was a great game for me to learn and it was my mum who brought me to all my practices.

Q: Who are squash players that inspire you?
A: I was very much inspired by David Palmer, an Australian squash legend who coaches at Cornell University. He was known as the “Marine” due to his incredible fitness and mental toughness. Other players that have inspired me to play are Amr Shabana, Ramy Ashour and Gregory Gaultier, they certainly made the game exciting. Their shot making is incredible to watch. They make the game look incredibly easy.

Q: What is one key to the perfect squash serve?
A: It’s very simple, learn the required technique and know your targets. Practice it 10,000 times. It’s the easiest shot in the game.

Q: What is your favorite post (or pre!) workout snack/meal?
A: I like to eat a balance meal, protein, carbs and veggies. I don’t particularly have a favorite meal, I like to mix things up! I do like to run across to Asian Blossom once in a while!

Q: What is your guilty pleasure food?
A: Cookies, Haagen Dazs. Last year I quit a bad habit of Starbucks! I make my own white chocolate mocha’s at home – so I don’t feel so guilty anymore!

Q: How do you (personally) crosstrain for squash?
A: I incorporate strength training, running and cycling but I’ve recently had an achilles tear and last year I turned 30. My focus will be on low impact conditioning such as row machine, ski erg and spin bike. Squash puts a lot of stress on your hips and knees. So it is very important to work on strength and mobility. Over the last 6 months I’ve switched to lighter weights for reps of 15, aiming to build muscular endurance and a leaner physic.

Q: Favorite music to listen to when exercising?
A: I love to work out to music that has a good beat and rhythm. For the hard work outs I tend to listen to something that gets me hyped! Really depends on my mood. But I hate forgetting my headphones or if they are about to die! Music is always on Max Volume! (30 years old and thankfully not deaf!)

Q: What are your goals (if any..not necessary) for 2021?
A: My goals for 2021 are; to fully recover from my achilles tear. Stay consistent with my training. I want to be the healthiest version of myself. Not just physically but mentally. Being happy and doing what I love is important to me.

Q: What is your favorite thing about The Chatham Club?
A: It’s a place I spend a lot of my time. Coaching and working out. What more could I want?! I certainly hope to see a lot of the old faces return this year. I really miss the buzz of members at the club.
