One year later an Open House welcomed the public to the facility’s sixteen brand new air-conditioned courts, with introductory lessons for beginners, men’s and women’s locker rooms, a sauna, and a baby-sitting service.
From its beginnings, The Chatham Club has held exhibition matches by ranked squash players, fielded men’s and women’s teams for all levels of play, and provided private lessons and clinics for adult and junior players. Five racquetball courts were subsequently added and both sports were played at the Club through much of the 1980s.
As the needs of the local community evolved so did the profile of The Chatham Club. Geoff Mitchell, a world-class squash player, joined the staff as head coach in 1989. In the 1990s, racquetball gave way to group exercise classes in an expanded and updated facility. Highly qualified personal trainers began helping members reach their health and fitness goals.
The Club continued to keep pace with the latest developments in cardio and core fitness, adding a large spinning room in 1995, a Pilates studio in 2000, and a kinesis/power plate studio in 2008. More recently, TRX suspension training was introduced to the group exercise class schedule, which offers more than 90 classes a week as part of the Club’s membership package, including Booty Barre, several types of yoga and boot camp style classes.
In 2011, a long-time member, James Rynar, joined two of the Club’s founders, Stanton Feeley, and William Lum, as their new partner. They can be counted on to maintain cutting edge standards while encouraging the warmth and camaraderie of the Club through member interaction on and off site.
By contributing to religious, youth, education and other service organizations, The Chatham Club has been a positive force in the community for more than 35 years. The owners, managers and staff are dedicated to continuing the Club’s tradition of caring about the community and helping members take care of themselves.
