Geoff Mitchell – USOC Coach of the Year for 2016

Geoff Mitchell was honored Tuesday evening, October 11th with the United States Olympic Committee National Coach of the Year Award. Dent Wilkens, the senior vice president of operations at the U. S. Squash, presented Mitchell with the award on the ASB Glass Court at the 2016 Delaware Investments U. S. Open.

Mitchell, the head pro at The Chatham Club in New Jersey, has been a stalwart teaching pro for more than a quarter century. A top player himself, often ranked as high as #1 in his age group in the country, Mitchell has developed hundreds of juniors into national champions and intercollegiate team and Team USA members. Since 2012 Mitchell has been the board chair for StreetSquash, the New Jersey based urban program.

Mitchell has been a key visionary in American coaching. Beginning in 2013, Mitchell has been one of seven regional coaches, helping guide the creation and implementation of the U.S. Squash regional squad structure, In January 2015, he led the U.S. Squash sponsored American team to the British Junior Open.

U.S.Squash has give out the USOC National Coach of the Year Award since 1998 when Paul Assaiante received the award. Other winners include Demer Holleran, Mark Allen, Adam Hamill, Natalie Grainger and last year’s winner Jim Stephens.
